LITEKEY INSTALLATION GUIDE V1.0
Tools you need:
-Multi-meter for continuity test
-Phillips screwdriver (fine tip and also middle tip)
-Soldering Iron
-Hobby Knife (xacto)
(If you are Professional and don’t want to waste time you can use a dremel with
engraver tool to cut traces faster, but be careful, don’t cut too deep)
STEP 1: DISSASSEMBLE DRIVE
STEP 2: CUT TRACES
STEP 3: SCRAPE
STEP 4: INSTALL
STEP 5: REASSEMBLE
STEP 6: TEST
Step 1: DISASSEMBLE DRIVE:
Unscrew and remove bottom metal cover of the drive
Remove flat cables and screws to flip board

Step 2: CUT TRACES
Cut the traces indicated on the picture, we suggest use a hobby knife or an xacto, if you have big balls
you can use a dremel to do it faster just be careful. Check with a multimeter that continuity is broken after the cuts.

Step 3: SCRAPE
This is so far the most important task to do. Again you can scrap the spots shown on the picture with
a xacto knife (or with a dremel with engraver tool), since the spots you are scraping are where the
solder will attach try scrape just on the trace or you can cause a bridge with the neighbouring trace.
Also make note the solder does not sit well on the holes so the more shiny the copper is the better for
soldering. If the bottom hole is giving you problems please skip it, you can run a wire to an alternative
point shown below, DONT DAMAGE THE RING (VIA) WHEN SCRAPING, this hole is very tiny.

Step 4: INSTALL
First it’s recommended you put some solder over the scrapes you just did, make sure the solder is
adhered well to the scraped copper.
Then align the LiteKey board and start soldering on the required points (picture below), to make a better
alignment we suggest that you solder the first one of the top spots and then the first from left to the right
as shown on the picture.
Check your connections with multi-meter and also check the below spots as reference, if the 2 spots give continuity then
you have a short somewhere and need to fix it, don’t power the drive if the multi-meter indicates that the 2 points have continuity.

Also to be able to see the led’s from outside the drive case we suggest that you break the following
plastic tab with a pair of pliers or a dremel.

Step 5: REASSEMBLE
Replace board and connect FFC cables, don’t put cover just yet just in case anything goes wrong and need fix.
Step 6: TEST
On this stage basically start Jungle Flasher, connect power and sata cables to the drive, don’t power it just yet.
Power the drive and make it eject the tray, power it off with tray open and keep it turned off by now
Execute a “SEND INTRO/DEVICE ID”, press yes to have JF keep trying, you will see the attempts of
reading with “..... ..”,
After a couple of seconds turn power on the drive and if all was ok you will see STATUS 0x72 and the device ID,
also the led on the device should be turned RED In case you get STATUS 72 but the device ID is 0xFF don’t
worry just press “SEND INTRO/DEVICE ID” again (don’t cut power of the drive) and the status should be fine after this.
In case all goes ok then just finish assembly and you are ready to read your drive at any time.
How to use the device once installed:
A) How to do a Jungle Flasher firmware read:
Follow STEP 6 (previous on this tutorial) basically you need to apply power to the drive with tray open and the
LiteKey will put the drive in STATUS 0x72 (RED LED ON), if you start the drive in closed tray it will not affect the normal
behaviour of the drive (GREEN LED ON).
B) I am paranoid about M$ detecting this device, what can I do to disable it?
Disabling is very easy you just need apply power to the drive with tray open (follow STEP 6 previous
on this tutorial) and once you get RED LED on the LiteKey what you will do is CLOSE the tray with
your hand pushing FAST, the led’s should change RED-GREEN (both led’s on) witch it means the device is in
DISABLE MODE, on this mode you will get SOLID GREEN when you start your drive with tray
closed and GREEN-RED when you start it with tray open but on Disable mode the drive will never be
pushed to status 0x72
C- OK I have it disabled now but what if I need to do another READ on the future?
Re-enabling is very easy, all you need to do is start the drive with tray open and you can see both led’s turn on
(GREEN-RED), once you get this just CLOSE manually the tray fast and this will cause re-enabling the device
(if you have it opened you will see led change to GREEN)
